Summer School Deadline

The Deadline for Summer School registration is quickly approaching. Students needing to participate in Summer School must apply before the deadline on May 7th. Applications are available in the Main Office or through students' counselors. Sign-up early so that you can be certain you have a spot!

Seussical the Musical

Spring musicalAmador Valley and Foothill high schools present Seussical the Musical, based on the works of Dr. Seuss, at the Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road, Pleasanton. Performances are March 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 adult/$10 youth & senior are are available through www.civicartstickets.org.

Amador Magic of Music

Magic of Music

The public is invited to attend the Amador Friends of Music 6th Annual Magic of Music fundraiser on Saturday, March 27, at 6 p.m. at the Pleasanton Senior Center. This year’s event is called “The Sidewalk Café." The Magic of Music is the annual fundraising event for the Amador Friends of Music, the non-profit organization supporting the activities of the Amador Valley High School Band and Color Guard. This year’s event is a tribute to this year’s popular marching band show “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” Amador Friends of Music invites everyone in the community to grab a beret for their last chance to see where the sidewalk ends with fellow music friends, adding that you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to see world-class performances by the Amador Jazz Bands. The evening includes a specially created three course French Bistro menu provided by Eddie Papa’s, and wonderful opportunities to support our band with live and silent auctions and games.
Tickets for this exciting event are only $65 per person (down from $75 last year). There will also be a cash bar with half of the proceeds coming back to the band. Senior Service Deadline

Seniors...don't forget! Your required service hours will be due May 5, 2010 to your Civics or Economics teacher. This is a REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION. If you do not complete the proper forms, this WILL prevent you from graduating. Be sure to complete all of your community service by this time, make sure that the type of service has been approved, and make sure to get verification on the proper forms before this time.

Amador Valley Mock Trial Advances to Finals

Amador Valley High School's Mock Trial team met Piedmont High School's team in the Alameda County Semifinal competition round in the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse last night. I am happy to announce that after 8 years of losing to Piedmont High School, Amador defeated Piedmont's team with a score of 347 to 323. This marks the first time in almost 8 years that the Piedmont team will not advance to the final round of competition, and pits Amador's Prosecution team against Bishop O'Dowd High School's Defense team.

Students who competed in the Defense trial at last night's round were:

If you have these students in any of your classes, please congratulate them on a job well done! Mock Trial continues its undefeated season with the Final Round of competition on Thursday night at 6pm in the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse. This is a large courtroom, and can accommodate plenty of spectators. This year's trial is a murder trial, so it's bound to be exciting and intriguing. Students on the Prosecution team will be competing, and the line-up is as follows:

Shirley Everett is the Senior Associate vice Provost for Residential and Dining Enterprises at Stanford University. R&DE comprises of undergraduate and graduate student housing, housing assignments, student dining and executive services, conference services catering and retail services and administrative and business support. As steward for a $1.7 billion asset portfolio, Shirley also manages a $150 million annual operating budget. Shirley leads an 800+ employee organization that houses 12,000 students and 18,000 conference guests while serving over 25,000 student retail, catering and conference guest meals each day combined.

Global Women Intact (GWI) is a non-profit, non-governmental and unbiased organization. When it comes to ending female circumcision, they are committed to working with women and girls in America and Africa. They provide prevention materials and support services in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner. They are dedicated to making services accessible to all. They work in partnership with community based organizations to provide: Advocacy Resource Tools, Economic Resources, and Educational Programs.

Performing an Africa Step Dance:
San Jose State University’s Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity
Kappa Alpha Psi was founded on the campus of Indiana University on January 5, 1911. The Fraternity’s fundamental purpose us achievement. Early in the century, African-American students were actively dissuaded from attending college. Formidable obstacles were erected to prevent the few who were enrolled from assimilating into co-curricular campus life. This ostracism characterized Indiana University in 1911, thus causing Elder W. Diggs, Bryon K. Armstrong and eight other black students to form Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, which remains the only Greek letter organization with its 1st Chapter on the University’s campus. The founders sought a formula that would immediately raise the sights of black collegians and stimulate them to accomplishments higher than they might have imagined. Fashioning achievement as its fundamental purpose, Kappa Alpha Psi began uniting college men of culture, patriotism and honor in a bond of fraternity.

Mock Trial Advances

After 4 rounds of competition, Amador Valley High School's Mock Trial Team has advanced to the county semi-finals. Out of the twelve teams competing this year they are one of four teams who are advancing to this level. The students compete again on Tuesday night against our long-time mock trial rivals, Piedmont H.S., for a spot in the county finals. For your information, the trial this year is an exciting murder trial. These students have been practicing since September for this competition, and try their cases before a real judge in a real courtroom. This is not just wrote memorization and regurgitation of prepared scripts. Students have a prepared case, but opposing teams may object to the line of questioning, and the judge routinely rules and asks questions of the students throughout the trial. They are truly impressive to watch.

The semifinal and final rounds take place in the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse in Oakland. It's easily accessible by the Lake Merritt BART station, and parking is easy in the evenings when the rest of the courts are closed.
